About us
Jo Ellis

Jme Counselling is set up by myself Jo Ellis. I am a member of the awarding body BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and I have an Advanced Diploma awarded by the awarding body CPCAB(Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) which took me 4 years to achieve. During that time though I held my Counselling Placement with The Childrens Society Waves Project and I continue to work there as a Counsellor working with vulnerable Children and Young people, who are having suicidal thoughts, suffering depression, peer pressure, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, stress, exam pressure, experiencing domestic violence, been through all forms of abuse, emotional, physical and mental, and with counselling have been able to look to the future postively, overcome depression and cope with the pressure that life throws are way.
I also work with Parents of Children and young people, as more often than not the help has to start there so they can be a support and postive role model to their children that need them through their difficult times. Often it occurs that by the adults taking the brave step into looking at their own life and childhood, upbringing, paths they have choosen etc. opening up about issues that have been repressed for so long, that they can now feel safe enough and trusted with me, that they are ready to look at it, understand it, and chose how they are going to move on from it, enlightens and empowers them into a more accepted and positive way of life, which has the ripple effect with their children.
During my continued time with The Waves Project I have had much training and gained many certificates in certain fields, such as Aspergers, ADHD, Safeguarding, CAF Assessments, Case Recording, Online Safety are to name just a few.
As you have read I have lots of experience in the children and young people counselling field. I also have lots of experience however in Domestic Abuse, Sexual, Physical and Mental. I have worked with and experienced areas of abuse. I have had training with the DAA (Dorset Action on Abuse) in survivors of sexual abuse, of which I have gained a number of certificates.
However 4 years of training with Bournemouth/Poole College has given me the knowledge of many theoretical models, Given me the skills so vitally needed in Therapy and the courage to address my own issues, so that I am fully aware of what is my 'stuff' and that of clients I work with. I also Have a highley qualified Supervisor who professionally provides advice, space, a listening ear and above all a back up for myself and for my clients in making sure I work ethically and to my best abililty, keeping clients and myself safe and providing the best practice I can when working with clients.
